Professional Digital Immobilizers

The only security layer that stops modern theft methods at the source: secondary authentication that prevents engine start—even when the car's computer believes a valid key is present.

How Digital Immobilizers Work

Professional-grade digital immobilizers connect to your vehicle's CAN bus—the internal network that controls everything from the engine to the door locks. They intercept engine start commands and add a second authentication requirement.

When you press the start button, here's what happens:

  1. Your key fob signal is detected (factory step)
  2. The car's computer authorizes the start (factory step)
  3. The immobilizer checks for your PIN sequence (added step)
  4. If correct → engine starts. If not → nothing happens.

The critical difference: this authentication happens at the CAN bus level, not the key fob level. Relay attacks, cloned keys, and OBD programming tools cannot bypass it.

PIN Entry Method

Your PIN is entered using existing factory buttons—steering wheel controls, turn signals, or window switches. No visible keypad.

Invisible Installation

No LEDs, no keypads, no visible wiring. Thieves scanning for security systems find nothing to indicate protection.

No Radio Signals

Unlike key fobs, immobilizers don't broadcast anything. There's no signal to relay, amplify, or intercept.

OBD-Proof

Even with full OBD port access, thieves cannot disable the immobilizer or bypass authentication.

What Threats It Stops

Theft Method Factory Security Digital Immobilizer
Relay Attacks ❌ Vulnerable ✓ Protected
CAN Bus Injection ❌ Vulnerable ✓ Protected
Key Cloning ❌ Vulnerable ✓ Protected
OBD Port Programming ❌ Vulnerable ✓ Protected
Tow-and-Go (flatbed) — No protection — Requires wheel locks

Professional Systems Available

Several manufacturers offer professional-grade digital immobilizers. While the core technology is similar, there are differences in features, installation complexity, and compatibility.

IGLA (Autotor Alarm)

CAN bus immobilizer with PIN entry via factory buttons. Popular in UK and US. Known for hidden installation and no subscription fees.

Typical installed cost: $1,200–$1,800

Ghost (Autowatch)

Similar CAN bus technology with button-based PIN. UK origin, expanding globally. Offers app connectivity on some models.

Typical installed cost: $1,000–$1,500

Pandora (Russia-based)

Comprehensive systems with immobilizer, GPS, and remote features. More complex installation. Popular in Europe.

Typical installed cost: $1,500–$2,500+

Note: All professional immobilizers require proper installation by trained technicians. DIY installation is not recommended and may void effectiveness.
